On Our Own
In his book “satisfied” Mark Finley talks about how God can meet our deepest needs. One of his many topics is, Knowing that God is with us even if we are on our own.
Just the same way many companies in the world have collapsed and many of their regulators, auditors and board members leaving the company on their own to manage its loss is how most of the people we know or are close to us would leave us on our own in times of need. You are on your own in so many issues-You are on your own when it comes to medical care, one has to navigate through the complex options of HMO or PPO or when it comes to phone companies.
They say no one is looking out for you because you are on your own. But how true is this statement that we are on our own? As a Christian, I believe we are not alone especially with individuals who have accomplished great things and who looked back on their lives and who said with one voice, ‘I was not alone’. Such a man is Moses who began his career at a time when his people, the children of Israel were enslaved by the empire of Egypt.
This what Moses wrote at the end of everything, “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments”—- Deuteronomy 7:9
That alone is enough to show us that in any circumstances, God comes through. And that was Moses’ conclusion. He always keeps his promises for a thousand generations. Most of the companies that we have today have been there for over 20 years before they collapsed. What about our father in heaven? He has and will remain steadfast through an entire generation.
We all know Moses was not a man who came with nice sentiments about God. He wrote this after a life filled with conflict, struggles and hardships experienced in the wilderness with the children of Israel when leading them to the Promised Land. Through all these experiences, they came to know for sure-that “The Lord your God is the faithful God who keeps covenant.”
Deuteronomy 32-4 states that “He is the Rock; His work is perfect; for all His ways are justice, a God of truth and without injustice; righteous and upright is he.”That is the conclusion Moses had and that’s the conclusion we should all have as Christians.
Do you feel afraid when big financial companies collapse? Do you feel unsure that your friends will leave you own your own when struggles come your way? Please remember the God who faced down the power of Egypt and took on the Power through his servant Moses. The God of Heaven is someone you can depend on to a thousand generation and that’s the reason why YOU ARE NOT ON YOUR OWN.
