Lesson 12: The Fruit of the Spirit is Truth

Truth
You can’t handle the truth.
I promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God.
I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
What else comes to mind when we hear the word truth.
Truth is subjective,
Truth is relative,
Truth is the seventh day Sabbath and the state of the dead.
Truth is the spirit of prophecy
Truth is ….
and the list goes on.

There are a couple of things that we must not forget because they are crucial to fully understanding truth as a fruit of the Spirit.

Truth cannot exist without a relationship with Christ.
Truth is only revealed to those who sincerely seek Christ, not for political gain or for world’s acclaim.
A relationship with Christ can only grow with truth that needs to be coupled with the Spirit.
Truth propels actions, it demands a response, truth unheeded is truth potentially deadened (I don’t know if deadened is a word but basically I am creating one and it means state of a being dying, I guess)
Walking in the truth is not about knowledge or about a checklist, it is about surrender
Truth, as a fruit of the Spirit, isn’t just what we know—it’s what we do. Living in God’s light means more than just knowledge. Look at how John explains what walking in darkness is like: “He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.1

Your knowledge of the truth is empty, the amount of time you have spent studying about the truth is nothing, truth is not measured by a clock but by the depth of a surrendered being.
It is not the length of time we labor but our willingness and fidelity in the work that makes it acceptable to God. In all our service a full surrender of self is demanded. The smallest duty done in sincerity and self-forgetfulness is more pleasing to God than the greatest work when marred with self-seeking.2

To sum it all up.
The fruit of the Spirit is truth which is personal because it first and foremost begins with a relationship with Christ that is cemented by the Spirit working on the heart of man in order to remove the scales from their eyes.  It moves, it breathes propels man to action and can be seen in a life fully surrendered daily, not once yearly to the master, it is not defined by a bunch of rules or laws or by the opinion of any elected official of man but by the Christ.
