Adventists + Dating Series
“I’m interested in starting a relationship with an SDA girl,” he said. The care and concern visibly radiated from the words on the page. “I’m a non-denominational Christian and I’m curious about the ins and outs of dating from the Adventist perspective.”
Many of us today face a similar question, albeit in slightly different forms depending on what the particular configuration looks like. Just by itself, dating is uncharted territory, Terra Incognito, for even the most intrepid adventurers. It’s curious how something so prevalent in our society proves to be such a big question mark for everyone involved. As Adventists, especially in this day and age, we sometimes take the dating question to the N-th degree. If it’s confusing, challenging, or frustrating for us, imagine how hard it is for someone “outside” our ranks who is looking in!
On the one hand, dating is dating - the “simple” process of getting to know someone, figuring out compatibilities, and determining if that “someone” is “The One”. If you take the whole exercise beyond just having fun, dating turns into a somewhat delicate adventure that is fraught with unknowns. Despite the stress, though, people continue to test the waters.
For a week starting today, we’re going to look at the dating landscape from several different vantage points. Don’t look for answers, though - these perspectives will inform, challenge, and intrigue. How do they fit with the questions you’ve been asking? Where is God in all of this?
“…inform, challenge, & intrigue..”
